Alamosa: Where families connect outside
What is This All About?
The Outdoor Family Festival is a new community event inspired by a shared vision during the 2024 Leadership Alamosa program. After reviewing the San Luis Valley Health Community Assessment and the U.S. Surgeon General’s 2023 advisory on loneliness, our team asked: How can we bring our community together in a healthy, joyful, lasting way?
The answer was right outside our door.
By creating a fun, low-barrier way to enjoy nature with others, we’re offering families and individuals a chance to connect, explore, and thrive—right here in our own backyard.
Alamosa might not be known for extreme recreation, but that’s exactly why this matters. We have easy trails, open space, a gentle river, and fresh air all within city limits. This is soft adventure at its finest, perfect for kids, newcomers, and anyone who’s ever thought, “I’m not really an outdoorsy person.”
Why This Matters
Connection: We’re facing a real epidemic of disconnection. This event invites people to rediscover the joy of being together outdoors.
Health: Time outside improves both physical and mental well-being.
Community: We’re strengthening Alamosa by growing pride and participation in our shared space.
Access: Nature should be for everyone, no gear or experience required.
Local Power: This is also a platform to highlight local organizations, resources, and providers doing great things in our region.
